deTours & Interfaith Friendship Circles Field Trip: Aga Khan Museum Tour + Mosaic Activity Workshop

Oct 23 2025 @ 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Join MFC and CIE in celebrating Canadian Islamic History Month by joining us for a free tour of the Aga Khan Museum and an interactive mosaic activity. The tour will offer opportunities to deepen your appreciation of the Museum’s collections of manuscripts, drawings, paintings, metalwork, ceramics, and other artifacts dating from the 8th to the 21st centuries. The tour also delves into more detail about the architectural masterpiece that is the Aga Khan Museum.

After the tour, we will partake in an interactive workshop: Fasayfisa’ – Introduction to Mosaic. The meaning behind Fasayfisa’ is an Arabic term for small, colourful pieces of marble or stone arranged side by side to form a unified design. Through this hands-on workshop, participants will create a small ornament using vibrant glass tiles, inspired by the intricate patterns found in Islamic art and architecture. Drawing from examples in the Aga Khan Museum’s Collections, explore how these repeating designs embody harmony, balance, and creativity, a tradition that has flourished for centuries.

We will begin by meeting at 12 pm at the Multi-Faith Centre and will leave together to travel to the museum for our 1 pm guided tour. After the workshop, we will travel back together to St. George campus. If you would like to meet us directly at the museum, please notify us ahead of time by contacting clarasuna.kim@utoronto.ca
