SUMMARY:Community Building with Intercultural Learning and Mindfulness
DESCRIPTION:The Intercultural Learning Program (ILP) is a way to build your intercultural skills at home or abroad. The ILP involves discovering how your own cultural identities shape the way you understand and operate in the world and recognize culture at work in your everyday experiences. Simply immersing yourself in a different culture does not automatically lead to deeper intercultural awareness. Growing your intercultural understanding depends on a blend of personal motivation and guided learning. \nThere are many benefits to enhancing your intercultural sensitivity\, but here are just a few: \n\nExplore and reflect on how your cultural identities influence your understanding\, expectations\, and behaviours;\nEnhance your intercultural awareness\, knowledge\, and skills transferable to the social\, academic\, and professional contexts;\nDevelop essential global fluency skills as you prepare for your global careers and work with diverse perspectives;\nUnderstand the hidden history of Canada and the impact of colonialism on the Indigenous peoples; and\nDevelop your intercultural learning goals and strategies to better understand\, communicate\, and navigate cultural commonalities and differences.\n\nJoin the ILP today and embark on a journey of personal growth\, cultural understanding\, and community building. Students who participate in our program have reflected on the benefits of this learning\, including more confidence in their ability to communicate across cultures\, step outside of their comfort zones\, and make intercultural connections

SUMMARY:Language Exchange
DESCRIPTION:Have an interest in languages? Looking for other students to practice conversations with? Be part of the Language Exchange Program! Let us know what language(s) you speak and what you are interested in practicing\, and we will set you up in a small group of participants with similar interests. You’ll get the chance to meet other students and participate in an exchange of languages in a fun and informal setting. \nDuring each session you’ll spend time in two language groups: one group will be a language that you are looking to practice\, and the other group will be a language that you can help others practice. We will provide a variety of games\, conversation starters\, and discussion topics for the groups to use. \nPlease note\, we aren’t providing language teaching\, and most participants find it helpful to have a basic familiarity of the language they are wanting to practice. This isn’t a language course but an informal and fun environment in which to practice conversations with your peers.
