Story circles are a useful technique for enhancing and exercising intercultural competency, and they have been implemented all over the world by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Active listening, openness, reflexivity, respect for other perspectives, and empathy are some of the skills participants will use to improve their cultural self-awareness through the use of strategic storytelling. Students will have the opportunity to discuss their experiences within a structured setting to explore and acquire knowledge about the similarities and differences that exist between different cultures. Participants will discover and develop shared frames of reference by engaging in conversation within a diverse group. At the conclusion of the event, all participants will have the opportunity to continue their reflections over dinner-time refreshments.
